The origin of Sarlakk
Story by Sarlakk

I woke up. I didn't know where I was, or how I got here. Wherever "here" happened to be. I stood up and looked around. This was too wierd. Everything looked kind of like something out of the Neverhood. I looked down at myself. I didn't know what to think next.

"Oh my God! I'm made out of Klay!", I screamed to no one in particular.

My voice sounded strange, and echoed in the room I was in. I closed my eyes and opened them again, hoping this was a dream and I would wake up. I didn't.

I didn't know what to say. Then all of a sudden it hit me. I used to be on Earth. I remember the car. I remember the screeching sound of the brakes as it swerved to hit me. I remember feeling like I was drifting to another place.

All of a sudden my thoughts were shattered by a little pinch on my toe. I looked down. I remembered playing the Neverhood and encountering a weasel. What I saw brought a smile to my face. It was the smallest little weasel I'd ever seen (then again, it was the FIRST weasel I'd ever seen with my own eyes).

I tried to pick it up, but my hand frightnened it, and it ran and cowered behind my leg. I had scared the poor thing! I felt terrible.

"Hey, little guy. Come on. I won't hurt you," I said softly.

I put out my hand slower this time, as not to frighten it again. It crawled onto my hand, and didn't move when I moved my hand in front of my face to get a closer look.

Then it pinched my hand and wouldn't let go. It didn't hurt much, but it was annoying. I grinned in spite of myself. "You should be called Pinch. You like that, yes?"

I got no response from the little guy, just a shake of his little head. I took that as a yes. He looked like he wanted to go down, so I put him down.

He scuttled off out the door. When I walked outside, he was nowhere to be found. However, I did see a world unlike I'd ever seen. I blinked a few times.

Before I could think of what to do, some other Hoodians came around the corner. I couldn't help but stare. I hadn't seen another being since Pinch. One of them was very tall, VERYVERY tall. The other was normal looking, for a Hoodian, but had a hoop on his head. Before I could do anything else, the hoop head spoke.

"Hi! You new?" it asked me. The tall one also greeted me, "Hello there!".

I couldn't think of what to say. The words "Um....hi. Yeah, I'm new." stumbled out of my mouth.

The hoop head said, "Well, welcome to the Hood. I'm Doodles, you can call me Doo or Doodledoo, or whatever. This is Tramen, my best friend. And you are?"

I was at loss for words. I didn't know I had a name. I racked my brain. One word appeared to me: "I'm...Sarlakk, I guess."

"Well, welcome to the Hood, again, Sarlakk," said Doodles, "Would you like to be shown around?"

"That would be thoughtful of you, thanks!", I smiled. "By the way, have you seen a little, I mean *little*, weasel?"

Doo seemed to get nervous. "Weasel? I don't like weasels much..."

"Nono, he's very small and very cute! He scares easy too. I named him Pinch, but he kinda ran off. He can't really hurt anybody," I could see Doodles relax as I told him this. I noticed Tramen was being quiet. He seemed pretty nice. They both did. I still have much to learn here, hey, it was only my first day, and I missed Earth. But, Doo and Tra are taking me around the Hood soon, so I guess I'll learn what I need to know!
